We have a group attempting wireless. In order to do so, Can we use a 12v battery, other than the kit battery, onboard the ROV? The provided 12 v battery makes it impossible to make a wireless ROV because of weight. They are looking for something with similar specs, just small and light. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE- OK, but safety is paramount, keep that in mind when making choices.

Can I compete with a stock class in the Open Class? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE-- NO. This is a Class for pushing Engineering solutions to their limit. Vehicles that Measure in as Stock Class will be Reclassified at Compliance. Down Side, your Notebook scores will not transfer over when you are reclassified.

Just to be clear: In the Open Class the use of a buck buck voltage booster is allowable to compensate for voltage drop over the cable, Right? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE- there are no restrictions on power management other than the 12V source as listed.
  • Servos Allowed?

Are we allowed to have RC-hobby style servos for actuation? I would like to setup a flight controller that turns 4 motors for propulsion/steering/hovering/etc.. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE- yes
  • Arduino

Can we mount cameras to the ROV for open class competition? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE-- yes.
  • 4th motor
Posted by Aymette Medina at 2014-03-18 16:16:23
A 4th motor for propulsion is allowed (up & down the ROV) is allowed in this class? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE-- yes.

Do we have to use the stock controller? We saw a team with a controller much like an x-box controller. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE: there is no restriction on the controller.
  • Buoyancy
Posted by Neil May at 2014-01-21 11:33:39
May we rig a device/system on the ROV that increases buoyancy on demand? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE : no restriction against it.
  • motor amount restriction

How many motors can we use for propulsion? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE: there is no rule
  • Power Source
Posted by Rob Stites at 2013-04-09 14:04:11
Just to be clear, you will be providing a 12 volt supply that can supply a constant 10 amps over the whole use period? Thanks. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE-- The power source provided was designed for a pool full of stock SeaPerchs. Line losses at 10Amps will be significant. If you need that much power, you may want to bring batteries. The 10Amp is a safety limit not a "what we provide"
  • Power

Will it be possible to plug in our laptop to 120V AC during the competition? ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- RESPONSE-- No, AC power is not available on the pool deck. No arrangements are provided for teams to have access to power in the pits either.
  • Data connection limit
